Well, you're entitled to your own opinion. It may sound crazy for you but it will work for those who are willing to make it work.

Minimum wage, there are no guarantees in life! However, keep in mind that knowledge is power. Knowing is one thing and implementing is another. But I'd rather have this financial information than not knowing anything at all. Having a college degree does not guarantee success. But people go to school anyways because they know they have a greater chance of a better life. The same thing applies for educating kids, you are just increasing their chance by imparting these knowledge. Whatever they want to do with that knowledge is up to them. And I think that's what everybody needs, a better chance!

Kids can be saving for things other than an IRA, and I would expect that the vast majority would save for other things before saving for an IRA.

For example, I saved $4,000 (approx $20,000 in today's dollars) by the time I graduated high school - not for retirement, but for college.

But then I blew all that money getting as liberal arts degree which became worthless when I couldn't afford to go to law school, so today I earn minimum wage.

Which reminds me...what good is financial literacy if you don't have any money?
