One reason is that, since we are living in an apartment and we would move a lot, the chance of increase wear and tear on the furnitures is really high. In addition, if we ever buy a house, we might end up throwing or donating the same furnitures as they might not fit the style of the house. The furnitures that were provided to us by our friends and families are the dining set table, sofas, electric fans, mattress, etc.
