My wife’s family is in the Philippines and we normally spend around $40 per month in long distance bill. My wife’s family there did not have internet connection back then but they recently have one. Because of this, we could potentially cut down on our long distance bill because she can communicate with them through the “chatroom.”

Eventually, the goal is to use a webcam so she can talk to them through video comuunication, which I believe is better than the telephone. They just need to purchase new accessories such as the webcam, Bose headphones with microphone, and speakers.

There are a lot of software out there and other mode of communication such as VOIP or Voice over internet protocol but you have to pay monthly charges for those. By far, the communication tools that we will be using will be the chatroom offered by Yahoo. In this manner, we would be able to use a webcam so that not only that we can hear their voice but also see their faces. Yahoo chat is free.

That’s one more expenses that we can slash off our budget.
