You know, those identity thieves are getting creative as far as stealing credit card information from consumers. Recently, identity thieves installed a credit card reader that was fraudulently attached to a movie rental box at a grocery store in Highlands Ranch. Douglas County Sheriffs indicated that the Safeway in Highlands Ranch reported that a customer was trying to use the DVD rental box to rent a movie but was having difficulties with the machine so a store employee attempted to help the customer. They soon found out that that an electronic device had been put above the actual credit card reader. It was a device that was used to scan someone’s credit card when they swiped it through the slot. They were able to disable the device and turn it over to the deputies on scene.

So far, there are no other report that the Sheriffs deputies have received regarding this type of reading device being attached to a DVD rental box in the other parts of the County.
