Personal Finance, Bargains/Deals and My Misc Ramblings
As you know, Wikipedia is one of the most visited site in the world. It allows users to post various articles and update information for free. Also, the articles posted are advertised free. Majority of the moderators and administrators are volunteers from all over the world. This non-profit organization generates revenues through donations. However, these donations will only cover a few of their expenses such as the servers and websites, it does not allow them to innovate or even expand. Commercialization has been opposed by a lot of volunteers because it will cause some conflict of interest with most articles.
It is estimated that the website could generate millions of dollars a month in advertising revenues should they allow advertisements posted on those articles.
What do you think, should Wikipedia start posting advertisements on their sites?
